Historic Ghost Tour of Slater Mill      April 30, 2011

With reservations in place, the M.A.P.S. Team looked forward to our participation in the Historic Ghost Tour of Slater Mill. The Mill was built in 1793 by Samuel Slater, who saw his dream materalize as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in America. Slater Mill was built along the rapidly flowing Blackstone River in Pawtucket, R. I.

As we approached, the silhouettes of Slater Mill, Wilkinson Mill (1810) and the Sylvanus Brown House (1758) stood proudly against the evening sky. The rippling sound of water was obvious to us as we familiarized ourselves with the immaculately kept grounds.  First to greet us was Kathy, a friendly, informative lady who was dressed in Victorian fashion. Soon after, our host and narrator Keith Johnson appeared complete with his shoulders draped in a cape. At this point, we knew we were in store for a fun filled evening!

Keith and his wife Sandra are founders of their paranormal group known as N.E.A.R. Keith is also an accomplished author, having recently published 2 books.   He was extremely knowledgable while sharing with us the history and importance of these historic landmarks.

Since M.A.P.S. is our paranormal team, we eagerly listened as Keith revealed some unexplainable incidents that had occurred in more than one building and on more than one occasion. With cameras flashing, batteries dying and EMF detectors illuminating the pitch black darkness of the building, we immediately felt activity among ourselves. Keith asked questions during an EVP session in Wilkinsons Mill near the waterwheel. Each time he mentioned "Grayman" our Emf detector spiked. Another guest experienced the same thing at the same time. At Slater Mill, an EMF detector which had been consistantly low all evening suddenly spiked up to 14 then plummeted down again. This happened in the exact location where our cameraman witnessed  a dark shadow. In the master bedroom of the Sylvanus Brown House, high EMF's were recorded and a strange light appeared on the bed. Near the stairway in the lower level, a team member felt nauseous and two people experienced a large copper kettle vibrate loudly as they passed by. Neither claimed to have made contact with the kettle. At precisely the same time, the power light on the EMF went totally black. New batteries had just been put in before our teams arrival. It later performed perfectly when used in the area near the entrance door. A gray shadow was also caught in the area near the fireplace in the lower level.

The evening ended far too quickly for the M.A.P.S. Team. We would highly recommend the Historic Ghost Tour of Slater Mill to others. With any luck, you'll be able to enjoy the witty charm of Keith Johnson as we did!
